I am in God's Own Family Now, Michele Kong

Day by day the World goes on,

Just as it has gone before,

Millions grasp and clutch at life,

Wondering if there could be more,

Such was I and would be, yet,

Mercy found me out somehow,

With what gratefulness I say,

`I am in God's own family now'. (Hymns, # 1238)

I grew up in a small family, in a fishing village in Malaysia. From my youth, my parents taught me to be hard working and to excel in everything that I did. Although it seemed financially impossible at times, they encouraged me to pursue my dream of being a medical doctor. I strived hard and pursued my dream relentlessly. My life in many ways was centered on achieving this dream.

In my high school years, I came into contact with some believers from the church in Sibu. They were full of life and love. I saw God among them, expressed in humanity. I started meeting with them in my final years in high school. O what joy! I began to realize that I had a human spirit. Not only do I have my physical body, my soul, comprised of my mind, emotion and will but, most importantly, I have a human spirit. I learned how to use my spirit to contact God by praying and by calling on His name. Ever since my salvation and regeneration, my life took a big turn.

I started reading my Bible and meeting with the brothers and sisters. I found the meaning of my human life. In the past, my joy came from getting good results in school. This joy was often temporary and I was never really satisfied. After receiving Christ, my joy came from enjoying Him personally and corporately with all the believers. John 4:13-14 says, “Jesus answered and said to her, Everyone who drinks of this water shall thirst again, But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall by no means thirst forever; but the water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water gushing up into eternal life.” I was so happy to be drinking from this water, from the fountain that never runs dry!!
